Transporter-12 Rideshare : VSFB SLC-4E : NET 14 January 2025 1849Z-1946Z

There is no IQ file from this observation.

Hi K4KDR,

Thanks for taking the time to decode the Skylink IQ file!

  • Regarding the framing, no, it’s not ENDUROSAT.
  • I’ve checked the IQ sample, and there are 2 valid frames in the file.
  • As for the FM deviation, it’s set to ±25 kHz.

Appreciate your effort, and let me know if you think of anything else that could help refine the setup!

Thank you for the reply!

What IS the baud rate & framing, then?

Hi again,

The baud rate is set to 9600 baud, and the framing is custom—meaning we have a proprietary ICD (Interface Control Document) in use.

Hi Jan,

Great catch. Suggested or updated tle based on this observation?

Tks,

Bob

Hi Bob,

At the moment we have no idea what satellite is transmitting on this frequency.
I only know that it seems to be part of the T12 launch.

Maybe we need to add an unknown T12 satellite with this frequency as transmitter in the database.

On the other hand, I was hoping someone could suggest that this frequency is used by a satellite that is already in the database.

Hi again,

Thanks for the update and the observation @K4KDR!

We analyzed the provided TLE and the faint signal you detected. Based on your note that the signal is approximately 1 minute ahead of the given TLE, we cross-referenced it with the TLEs provided by Space-Track. After analysis, we narrowed it down to 7 potential TLEs that could correspond to Skylink within the approximate time range:

@fredy, if you could also take a look at these TLEs and provide your insights, that would be much appreciated!

QSL Jan.

Will make some recordings to see if we can shed more light on the question.

that would be great, please share them if you can.

@N6RFM @ea4gqs

The signal from an unknown satellite on 437.780 is a similar FSK signal as used by HADES-R and URESAT, but I am unable to decode it with the known, provided decoders. (It is also passing at a similar moment as HADES-R)

Attached an audio recording of the signal

Thanks update Jan. Will narrow the times to be QRV for these. Will report back.

“Appears” to be some kind of AFSK with tones at 1090 Hz & 2200 Hz, but I tried various baud rates & other settings but was not able to get anything to decode. I’m sure the right combination is in there somewhere & just eluded me!

Hi,

This is HYDRA-T. It is very similiar to HADES-R. Both satellites were launched together. It carries an experiment for UC3M University but this satellite is not operated by AMSAT. It can’t be used as a repeater but if there is interest in decoding telemetry I think we can ask and add it to Andy Soundmodem.

Thank you very much for this information, a decoder would be appreciated.

For now, and will change !!

@ea4gqs am I right to think that HYDRA-T is a non-amateur satellite owned and operated by Hydra Space, a private company part of whose members also belong to the satellite development team at AMSAT-EA, and that HYDRA-T is transmitting in the 70cm Amateur satellite band without IARU coordination and potentially without a license (since I am not aware of commercial Spanish satellites being able to use this spectrum)? Or have I missed something that makes the situation different from what I am describing here?

Hi,

Daniel, yes you’re right. This is not an amateur satellite. The frequency it is using is legal but it should not be here.

I can only say that I am sorry because I am part of the team who made it and, althought I didn’t choose the frequency for it I should have fought more to move it outside the band.

The consultant the company asked for it, said it was legal to use that frequency but it has not been a good idea at all.

I can only apologize and ask you all for your patience.

I am going to put pressure so the satellite is powered off. At this moment, I think the only solution so nobody is harm, and specially the University, would be to turn on the satellite just at some moments to take data from the experiment and having it off the rest of the time.

Felix,

A decoder would be very much appreciated or at least sufficient details so that other decoding tools might be used.
