Debian 13 "Trixie" incompatible

Hello SatNOGS community,

I recently tried to install SatNOGS on a Raspberry Pi running Debian 13 “trixie”. Unfortunately, the installation fails during the Ansible provisioning step with this message:

"This role does not support Debian trixie."

This seems to indicate that the current SatNOGS Ansible playbook or client does not yet support Debian 13.

Could anyone share if there is a planned update or timeline for SatNOGS support for the Debian 13 “trixie” release? Is there any recommended workaround in the meantime, or is rolling back to an earlier distribution (like Debian 12 or Raspberry Pi OS based on Bullseye) the only option right now?

I want to ensure future compatibility but also continue using the latest stable OS.

New stable january version release

Thanks for reporting it! Indeed the latest installation is based on the old stable Raspberry Pi image (bookworm) and not yet in trixie. I’ve added a warning about it in the wiki page.

As I wrote in the other thread, we plan to support trixie but unfortunately there isn’t a clear timeline as we are short on people working on client development and there are many tasks to be done, however it is high in priority.

So, the option for now is to continue run a Raspberry Pi OS based on Bullseye.
