Waterfall data array is invalid

Hello, Im struggling.

Quick Rundown -

  • RasPi 5 *8gb
  • L-Band antenna and NESDR - Smart V5 Hardware check out with SATDUMP and SDR++
  • Scheduling and kick off work as expected.
  • Metadata shows up after observation
  • Modified gain using Soapy Server and CubicSDR
  • No Rotator installed - yet (Not needed for GOES 18)

Ive made several attempts and Im not making head way. I thought the gain adjustments would do it - No Joy.

Tim

Hi @haig123 can you copy paste the support report?

To generate it, go to the menu item Advanced -> Support in sudo satnogs-setup, it may take a couple of minutes to be generated.

Good afternoon,

Some remarks:

  • Can you share more log information, we now only see the result and not the reason for this behavior.
  • You mention that you will not use a rotor but I do see that a rotor is configured, at the moment rotor support is not yet working, see missing features.

More generic support can be found at the below link.

SatNOGS trouble shooting wiki

I will post after the next pass

I originally configured a rotator, however, I disabled this as these observations are on a GeoSat.1

I will add the rotator when I enable the VHF and UHF antennas.

Yes, I have reviewed the trouble shooting steps.

thank you

If this is not the log output you want , please tell me which one.

Hi Tim,

This seems to be the reason of everything going wrong:

network_open: hoststr=127.0.0.1, portstr=4532
connect to 127.0.0.1:4532 failed, (trying next interface): Network error 111: Connection refused
network_open: failed to connect to 127.0.0.1:4532

Port 4532 belongs to rigctld and that is responsible for Doppler correction.

So it seems something is wrong with the rigctld docker container that is being used by the client container.

sudo docker ps -f 'name=^satnogs_' --format "table {{.Names}}\t{{.Status}}"

Looking at the meta data of one of your obs

https://network.satnogs.org/observations/11311865/#tab-metadata I see you altered the rigctl-host: "127.0.0.1" value, this should be equal to the name of the rigctld container and not 127.0.0.1

Jan | PE0SAT

Isn’t 127.0.0.1 the loopback ie local host? I don’t think I touched that parameter. What should it be ?

Is this what you wanted to look at?

wt8d@headless:~/hamlib-4.5.5 $ sudo docker ps -f ‘name=^satnogs_’ --format “table {{.Names}}\t{{.Status}}”
NAMES STATUS
satnogs_rigctld Up 19 hours
satnogs_satnogs-client Up 19 hours

I can see in your support report that the default value of rigctld in the SATNOGS_RIG_IP option has been overridden to 127.0.0.1. You should remove it in satnogs-setup to revert to the default or replace it with rigctld explicitly. You can find this option under Advanced -> Radio submenu.

Also, I can see that SATNOGS_ROT_* options are enabled although you mentioned that you don’t have any rotator at the moment. These options should also be removed. Be aware that on the dockerized release that you are running, rotator support is not available yet. Remove these options as well as the HAMLIB_UTILS_ROT_* options. You can find these options under Advanced -> Rotator and Advanced -> Hamlib submenus respectively.

P.S. Options that have been overridden from the default can be easily identified by an asterisk (*) preceding their description.

Is is, but when using virtual solutions like docker setup there are more “localhost” definitions.
change rigctl-host: "127.0.0.1" with rigctl-host: "satnogs_rigctld"

Will do and revert

thank you

Does FALSE = enabled? That is what I have it set to

Thank You

When configuring boolean options in satnogs-setup, you will be prompted to choose between Yes and No:

  • Yes corresponds to true
  • No corresponds to false

The actual effect - whether a feature is enabled or disabled - depends on the specific meaning of the option, so read the descriptions carefully.

If an asterisk appears right before the description, then it means that the option has been overridden from the default.

The HAMLIB_UTILS_ROT_ENABALED setting was and is FALSE. That is why I asked the question. I don’t have a choice of 0 or 1 or True or False , I selected No and the selection wrote [False] I will remove any parameters that are associated with Rotator function.

Thanks

Well , it didn’t fail, so we are getting somewhere. I am trying a different freq. same sat, I will let you know.

Thank you for the help

BTW what build should I look at to install as I have the rotator and antennas ready to go after I get the static SAT bugs worked out?

Tim

Hi Tim,

Great to see it is working.

If I am wrong I hope someone will correct me, the current docker install seems to have an issue with serial connected devices. If you have a rotor that supports the rotcld you can configure a remote controlled rotor on this SatNOGS client as a workaround.

So , run the daemon on a separate machine and call via TCP ?

thanks

Tim

Indeed, that should be a temporary workaround

or run it in a separate stack…
create and enter a directory for it, like ~/rotator
copy to file docker-compose.yml :

services:
  rotctld:
    image: librespace/hamlib:4.0
    user: '999'
    read_only: true
    environment:
      MODEL: "202"
      SERIAL_SPEED: "9600"
      SET_CONF: "min_az=0,max_az=360,min_el=0,max_el=90"
      ROT_FILE: "/dev/rotator"
    ports:
      - '4533:4533'
    device_cgroup_rules:
      - 'c 188:* rwm'
    devices:
      - '/dev/ttyACM0:/dev/rotator'
    restart: 'unless-stopped'
    command: 'rotctld'
    stop_grace_period: 1s

you need to change the line with the device mapping to /dev/rotator, but only on the left side of the colon.
the format is <source>:<target> and only change source.

you can change the MODEL, SERIAL_SPEED and SET_CONF as you like, the ROT_FILE should not be touched.

bring it up with docker compose up -d and down with docker compose down when you don’t need it.
check the logs with docker compose logs -f
and query it with docker compose exec -it rotctld rotctl -m 2 like enter the p command:

Rotator command: p
Azimuth: 179.00
Elevation: 147.00

edit: depending on compose version, you might need to change docker compose to docker-compose
