Vetting observations vs. Wiki down?

TL;DR: Trying to learn about Vetting Observations, and wiki.satnogs.org is not reachable. Is that unexpected behavior?

So, I’m just getting my station working, and I suspect I have a short or something in my antenna line. But I can’t work on it tonight, so I figured I’d schedule a few observations on satellites I suspect to be loud enough that I should hear them. I know there’s something about Vetting Observations, but I don’t know what that really means… beyond the standard meaning of the words. I was going to browse the Wiki, but… no joy. So, I figured I’d ask a 2-fer question and see if I can get a response to either.

Thanks in advance, I appreciate all of you.

Chris

There is an instability on the wiki the last days, we are looking on it.

You can check the status in https://status.libre.space/.

About vetting, a quick guide:

  1. Vetting observations is optional but useful when is done as it improves our overview of satellite and stations statuses.
  2. For now vetting is limited to check the existence of scheduled satellite signal in waterfall (this will extent in the future to include the other artifacts (audio, data etc) too)
  3. The general case is that you vet an observation good if you see the signal(s) at the middle of the waterfall follow a vertical straight line. For example SatNOGS Network - Observation 13533412. In case of no signal then it is vetted as bad. If unsure you can ask or leave it the waterfall status as unknown for someone else to check it in the future.
  4. However there are cases we have the signal not following a vertical straight line, this is more rare and happens when the TLE are not accurate, usually near deployment and re-entry phases, or if the TLE is too old (you can say from the details in observation page at left if the TLE epoch is more than a couple of days away from the start datetime).

The root cause of the wiki instability is not resolved yet but it should be fine.
