The New Year holidays are in full swing, and weāre continuingācontinuing our traditional New Year orbital quests. ![]()
Quest overview (brief):
-
Two CubeSats from the Space-Ļ project are participating in the quest: UMKA-1 and VIZARD-METEO.
-
Participants need to receive and decode key images transmitted via SSTV (a total of four key images).
-
Using the key images, a special table must be filled ināone table per image (four tables in total), strictly following the color order for each cell.
-
After that, the four completed tables must be combined into a single final image.
Yes, it may look similar to the quest held for World Space Week, but this time itās in color ![]()
Participant Guide
1. Reception and decoding
-
Track the transmissions of UMKA-1 and VIZARD-METEO and receive four SSTV transmissions.
-
Decode the SSTV signals into images using any convenient software
(for example: MMSSTV, QSSTV, RX-SSTV, etc.).
2. Processing the keys
-
Each received file is a key image. Carefully examine the placement of numbers and letters within the color spectrum of the received image.
-
Assign the colors to the cells of the table according to the position of the letters in the color spectrum.
3. Assembly
-
Fill in all four tables (one for each received image).
-
Combine the completed tables into the final New Year message.
Useful notes:
-
Satellite frequencies:
-
UMKA-1 RS40S ā 437.625 MHz, Robot36 mode, 2-minute interval
-
VIZARD-METEO RS38S ā 437.825 MHz, Robot36 mode, 2-minute interval
-
-
Each satellite transmits two key images.
-
Sharing received satellite images publicly is optional.
-
To receive a New Year quest participation certificate, the completed final message must be submitted via a special form by January 7, 23:59 UTC.
-
The form will be published in a news post on r4uab.ru and duplicated here later.
-
If any issues arise with the form, the results may be sent by email to:
umka1@school29.com
-
-
Starting January 8, participants may share their results publicly

-
Below is the table template that will need to be filled in (four times)
Image transmissions began today at 18:00 UTC.
If the letters in the images turn out to be difficult to read, UMKA will switch to Robot72 mode. Transmission intervals will be increased to 3ā4 minutes, as this mode is the most power-intensive for the satellite.
Good luck! ![]()
