Has this weekend’s activation been cancelled?
Tried for 1520z pass over UK but heard nothing. Elevation was only 27deg max at my QTH but thought I should get a few packets.
If the digipeater is on I’ll try tomorrow afternoon (1454z) UK pass.
Chris
Update: just seen the university schedule page has been updated today and the next schedule is now 20th, so I guess answers that my question. I’ll look out for the SSTV next weekend if that goes ahead.
This weekend: Digipeater! (as in schedule above)
Is SSTV active this weekend? University website schedule page say planned 27/09/24 - 29/09/24 but I just tried during 1435UTC pass over UK and heard nothing.
Previous activations have shown specific pass times for different regions but no detail shown for this weekend. Maybe it just wasn’t on for this pass over western Europe/UK?
May try again on tomorrow afternoon pass.
Thanks for that. When I looked earlier it was still showing the detailed pass information for last month’s activation, must have just updated it. Earliest activations now showing 1724UTC which explains why I didn’t have a copy.
I’ll try for the 1555UTC tomorrow … not dedicated enough to get up just before 4am local for that pass
UPDATE: OK, scratch that plan. Just checked on GPredict and none of the scheduled “West Europe” passes seem viable for me here in London. All of them are less that 20Deg max elevation and the schedule time is half way through the pass here so the satellite will already be departing and dropping lower.
Must be a post-brexit thing, since the neither of the upcoming SAKURA Europe APRS activations cover the UK either (today’s pass max 2Deg, tomorrow not even in footprint)
Only a partial image last night at 01:22 UTC
Hopeful for the 14:19 transmission. Looks like a decent pass for Norway.

Ohwell… Thats what you get when you are overly positive

Missed the first image.

Managed to get at least a partial from the first image on the Central Europe - should have checked the possibility of receiving those passes earlier but (wrongly) assumed UK would be West Europe. Anyway here’s what I got…

reduced my RF gain slightly and the quality seems to have improved.

I used “Google Earth Pro” to identify the location of SONATE-2
Earth image shown earlier. This is “Karkheh Dam Reservoir” on
Karkheh River, which flows into the Persian Gulf in western Iran.

Thanks for overlaying the received picture on Google Earth’s satellite image.
I identified it as the Karkheh Dam by “search by image” in Google.

Digipeater stays active!
The APRS digipeater has successfully operated for the first time continuously for a week. No problems were encountered. We will therefore continue to operate the APRS digipeater until further notice.
Sonate 2 is transmitting SSTV during the weekend.
I just received a reasonably strong SSTV signal from Sonate-2, and recorded the audio from SDR#. But when I play that audio back into Black Cat SSTV, in Martin 1 mode, the image is very badly skewed. Even using the maximum skew adjust controls in my software, I cannot correct this skew
Doesn’t anyone know how I can correct this skew? And why is the image so terribly skewed?
OK, I ran my audio file through MMSSTV and it corrected the slant Here is the image that I received.
I’m located in Thailand, so I think this image is of the Gulf of Martaban?
I’m very happy to have received this image. Do they send e-qsls??
Hi Simon,
On 17th I visited the SONATE-2 team.
They showed me their mission control center, production rooms and the antennas they use on top of another building. Very impressive!
I also saw a schedule of the areas they plan to photograph for SSTV transmissions. The Gulf of Martaban was not on it.
The transmissions one can receive are no realtime photos.
They also told me about their plan to send QSL cards on paper via bureau.
Just send your reception data to sonate-2@uni-wuerzburg.de. They are still collecting those data and once they finished the card, they will send it.
