SONATE-2: SSTV + Digipeater

Im in a similar boat. I have one beautiful pass, and I’ll be in the car, headed to a conference. All the other passes are during satellite quiet times. :frowning:

Planned SSTV transmissions: March 6 ~ 9 (12 to 12 UTC)

The schedules are terrible for my location here in Brazil :sad_but_relieved_face:

SONATE-2 06.02.2026 13:58-14:05 UTC - max. elevation 28 deg.

Recieved on foldable Yagi 4el. VHF +RTL SDR V4

This time the scedule was perfect - both pictures transmitted in full visibility of the satellite, second one - even near apogee.

Partial of Sonate-2 on 145.880 MHz, Martin 1 mode, 20 degrees elevation, 3-element Arrow Yagi (fixed Az/El), LNA block, RTL SDRv4 dongle, SDR++ and MMSSTV.

I have a high noise floor at this new location in Siem Reap (Cambodia), and my previous attempts in the past few days to receive this satellite were unsuccessful. (I did receive it a couple of years ago at a better QTH in Laos).

So I grabbed a 3-meter plastic water pipe and attached my existing antenna mast to that and managed to increase my antenna height by that amount.

This is the image that I recorded and played back into MMSSTV. As with my previous reception of Sonate-2, Black Cat SSTV software only produced a totally-skewed image that was impossible to correct using the skew control. (If anyone else has experienced this problem with Sonate-2 and Black Cat, I’d love to hear your comments).

Update: Clicking on the ‘x20’ button in Black Cat skew control did allow me to correct the skew - below is the same image processed by Black Cat - the image is slightly better and the call-sign is just about visible

SONATE-2 13:14 and 13:16 UTC Nearly ideal conditons - high pass 80+ degrees, transmissions occur near apogee. Recieved on foldable Yagi 4el. VHF +RTL SDR V4

I`m using SDR# to replay the IQ recorded in the outdoors and RX-SSTV to to convert audio to SSTV formats.

Many thanks to SONATE-2 team!

Planned SSTV transmissions

Again, somewhat random times and from what I’ve seen I’ll only have one low pass to the West with satellite transmitting SSTV.

Good luck to all !!

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like I have a 35deg pass with aos at 1512 on 28th so hopefully I will get something this weekend.

SONATE-2 12:06-12:15 UTC Two pictures recieved. Max elevation - 14deg. Hardware - RTL SDR V4 + 4 el.Yagi foldable antenna.
This time scedule was a bit off for my location (KO95, Moscow), but signal was quite strong, when the satellite was in clear visibility.
Don`t know if it is acceptable for an another QSL

Well got something. I heard some of the 1512 transmission but it was right at AOS so too low for much of the time and I didn’t get a good decode. The 1518UTC transmission was better but by the end starting to dip too low again so this all I got…

Pass with a maximum elevation of 14°. Unfortunately, it was my only chance :smiling_face_with_tear:
