Rotator controller issue with watchdog on Sparkfun Arduino Mini

I have my satnogs rotator up and working but there are a couple of issues I am working through. One is that if the watchdog is triggered then it does not reboot the Arduino. It does trigger the interrupt and I can type GE to see it is in the Watchdog state, but typing RB puts it into a boot loop. It can then be hard to get it out of that state.

Searching online indicates that this is a common issue. I have tried many of the solutions recommended, such as burning the optiboot bootloader, but without success. Given I am using the Spakfun Arduino recommended on the Rotator Controller wiki page, is this an issue that others have seen and solved?

I can post this as an issue in the gitlab repo if that is a better place, but wanted to check here first.
