RFC: new SatNOGS DB home page

Oh, I don’t expect many people do use it - beyond the search box I’m not sure how useful the whole listing is, hence kicking off this thread. But, I think we can make it useful

Some more insight and ideas:

Current analytics

  1. Our users commonly land on the home page, but almost just as often land on /stats/
  2. Of the home page users, the first 2 satellites we show are common “next click” (TRANSIT 5B-5 and OSCAR-7).
  3. A high amount of users are reaching /satellite from home and then falling off (we need something here better than the 404 page). I can’t figure out how they are ending up here in the first place??
  4. Our current pageload on home is 12.58 MB (oof!!)
  5. Aside from the organic clicks to the first 2 sats on the home page mentioned above, ISS is a common hit as are typically the newest sats to be added. So the “newest entries” might be a good idea after all…

HamSats page

There are plenty of good pages on the web that provide frequencies and modes for ham radio use. I think it is worthwhile to reinvent this wheel in db as we have a dynamic source of data, and such a page could be presented with current data from the backend (no need to update the page itself). Additionally, a specially formatted mobile and print view would be beneficial.

I played around with this a bit - this is something that could use input (and a lot of polish)
