My name is K.R. Sasmitha Kaushan, and I am the Team Leader of SLARS at Bandaranayake College Gampaha in Sri Lanka. Together with my classmates, we are working on SLARS-BCG-1, a 2U CubeSat that we hope will become Sri Lanka’s first student-built satellite.
We have been reaching out to many organizations and individuals over the past months, but most have not replied or have asked for paid support. As students, we have very limited resources, and this journey has been exhausting. This message is our final attempt to seek mentorship and guidance from a community we deeply respect.
We are passionate and determined, but without expert advice we risk losing momentum. Even a small amount of guidance—such as pointing us to resources, reviewing our subsystem plans, or connecting us with a mentor—would mean the world to us.
We believe in the spirit of open collaboration and education, and we hope that someone here can help us take the next step.
Thank you for your time, and for building such a supportive community.
Can you give some more details on your project, for example what is the current progress, what is the mission and what are the goals you try to accomplish and what are your next steps.
Our project is called SLARS-BCG-1, which is Sri Lanka’s first school-made CubeSat. We are a student-led team working to advance STEM education through hands-on space projects.
Current Progress: We are finalizing the on‑board software and conducting integration tests with our CubeSat subsystems.
Mission: To inspire students worldwide by building accessible space technology projects, starting with CubeSats, CanSats, rockets, disaster management systems, and new inventions.
Goals:
Build Sri Lanka’s first school-made CubeSat.
Establish SLARS Teams in every country to create a global student network for space exploration.
Expand practical STEM education by combining robotics, IoT, and satellite tracking.
Next Steps: Complete CubeSat testing, prepare for launch readiness, and expand our outreach by partnering with schools and organizations worldwide.
We believe partnering with SLARS Team can help extend missions into Asia and globally, creating a strong educational impact.
