Perfect! so TBEX-B is object 44359 as any other object from this launch doesn’t fit this observation.

Hm… it looks like KD8SPS is used from GRIFEX, however GRIFEX was only visible by the station for the first 1min of the observation.

@jwc I’m wondering if these 22 frames are from GRIFEX, from this 1min pass or from TBEx-B. Could you also let us know how you recognized that this is TBEx-B?

@fredy KD8SPS is the destination callsign, which could be correct for more than a single satellite. The source is KF6RFX which I did not check the satellite using it for.

I need to try that direwolf-based decoding. Nice.

After the AX.25 call sign header, you’ll see our packet flags, 0xAB 0x CD. The fourth byte after that is our spacecraft ID (SID). 0x53 is TBEX-B. 0x52 is TBEX-A. GRIFEX is 0x42.

The call signs unfortunately won’t be as useful in decoding which is which satellite.

EDIT…Our final flash of the radio software didn’t have the frequency and call sign updates. Need to add that to the checklist and checking.

We decoded TBEx-A yesterday at approximately 19:03. We were tracking B and the beacon was received right after estimated setting of B. We’ve also been working to keep the beacons transmitting on B. Stations have had good reception while the beacon has been active.

Edit: @fredy I corrected the time stamp. It was just one beacon and after A had passed by, it seems.

Any estimation for TBEx-A NORAD ID from your observation? Was it just a beacon or a several ones?

Receiving it earlier than TBEx-B pass, confirms the estimation of TBEx-A being 44361.

OBJECT D (44342) was also visible around that time, however it looks like it is in a very different orbit than the one of TBEx-B. Supposing that TBEx-B and TBEx-A were deployed almost together and in the same orbit then we can say almost for sure TBEx-A is 44361, given that other unknown objects from that deployment weren’t in the area at 17:03 UTC.

EDIT: All the above with taking as granted that FORMOSATs identifications are right.

That changes the calculations, also now make more sense that you noticed it after TBEx-B

So, from a similar analysis, excluding FORMOSATs, TBEx-A could be one of OJBECT D (44342) which has a very different orbit from TBEx-B or OBJECT T (44356) which has similar orbit with TBEx-B.
However 44356 is assigned to OCULUS-ASR, not sure how this identification has been made, I suspect it was done due to its size or due to the extra deployments (OCULUS SPHERES) it did. We haven’t received any signal from it, if it indeed transmits in amateur bands as described in its IARU coordination.

@jwc do you know or could you find if TBEx-A is expected to have similar orbit with TBEx-B or a different one?

The orbits should be very similar. They were deployed 5 minutes apart from each with the rocket coasting. Drag could be different between the satellites due to solar panel deployment. We have heard both so we expect all the panels to be deployed. Something could be different though.

I have moved TBEx-A to follow 44356, which is now assigned to OCULUS-ASR, however from my searching, there is a good chance that we have a wrong assignment. I suspect from the deployment times and some orbital elements on the TLEs that OCULUS-ASR is OBJECT H, but it is a guess.

Let’s see if this change will work for TBEx-A.
