Observation 4139009: NUSAT 1 (41557)

Regarding Observation 4139009 with LNA and gain 10 vs Observation 4124115 without and gain 30 - is there any observable improvement in observation quality? I’ve added LNA and cranked down gain from 30 to 10. On which satellites best to observe if LNA does it job?

I’ve checked https://network.satnogs.org/observations/4124157/ without LNA and https://network.satnogs.org/observations/4139010/ with LNA and seems like more signal features are brought out but I’m not sure whether that’s the LNA or different weather conditions.

Weather conditions, except if they are extreme shouldn’t affect a lot the results. It looks like that with LNA is a little better but it is difficult to say as the waterfall power colormap is variable. For doing such comparisons I suggest adding min and max values on waterfall in advanced settings of satnogs-setup, this will make comparison easier.

If your network connection has enough bandwidth you can also try and use a client server connection with rtl_tcp (if you use a RTL-SDR) to test the capabilities of you SDR, Antenna and LNA.

In this example rtl_tcp will run on the SatNOGS client (after building or installing) and this will act as a server for incoming connections.

Then you can connect to this server with GQRX or SDRsharp.

Here is a link with more details:[ Adjusting the SatNOGS Client (https://wiki.satnogs.org/Adjusting_the_SatNOGS_Client)

One remark: Don’t try this if you only have a Wifi connection between your SatNOGS client and you local network.
