Observation 14834170: TRITON-1 (39427)

Regarding Observation 14834170 …Hello everyone,

I recently ran an observation for TRITON-1 (Observation #14834170) using my station (4950 - jp7dvx), which achieved a nearly overhead pass with a maximum elevation of 89°.

The waterfall clearly captured a nice Doppler shift curve with twin traces around -5 kHz. However, the observation status ended up as “Unknown,” and it didn’t seem to decode properly.

Could anyone advise if this transmitter behavior is expected, or if there is something I should adjust in my station setup for this mode (1200bps RC-BPSK CW)?

As far as I know the satellite is no longer active, here an observation with very weak CW signal

The doppler shift curve you see is from something else.

I know TRITON-1 only from very weak CW signals.
My last reception was on 2024-02-24.

Thank you both for the invaluable insights!

Hearing that the signal wasn’t from TRITON-1 and that those clean Doppler curves belong to “something else” actually makes this even more exciting. It means my modest second-floor balcony mobile antenna managed to beautifully capture an unexpected visitor passing overhead!

It opens up a whole new mystery of what was actually flying by. I really appreciate you sharing your expertise and helping me unravel this.
