Regarding Observation 14220701 … Hi everyone, this is my first day trying to set up my Dipole Antenna and I haven’t been sure if I’m connecting, none of my waterfalls have had clear signals. This pulled demoded data, but its waterfall signal is still unclear. Does that faint line to the right count? Any tips to a newcomer is appreciated!
hello @cammybwammy welcome first!
all noaa sat was decommisioned. so i recommend to make new obs for another sats.
i see at your metadata data:
![]()
gain is null. try put higher number there:
SATNOGS_RF_GAIN= 36.4
this will boost your sdr gain
for RTL-SDR adapter, supported gain values: 0.0 0.9 1.4 2.7 3.7 7.7 8.7 12.5 14.4 15.7 16.6 19.7 20.7 22.9 25.4 28.0 29.7 32.8 33.8 36.4 37.2 38.6 40.2 42.1 43.4 43.9 44.5 48.0 49.6
The ORBCOMM satellites seem to be a good test bird to practice on. Very strong signal. Easy to pick up even on a low elevation pass using even a lowly Tram 1182 in an attic.
If you are running two stations the nice steady signal from them makes it easy to compare and tweak.
The line on the right might be countable as coming from the satellite you where listening to except for the curve. This is your ground station adjusting for doppler. If it is the satellite and is moving in the predicted manner the line or lines should be straight up and down.
