Observation 11823780: RIDUSat-1 (98600)

Regarding Observation 11823780
What causes this artifact in the waterfall - is this a signal, or local noise?

Hi,
The horizontal lines is probably local interference. How local ? not sure.
Things to try, changing the gain, band/high/low-pass filter. Maybe even moving the antenna.

I would look at the Signal Wiki for a start.

You are right - the time and frequency (+10KHz) match. And because of the different trajectory the Doppler correction in the waterfall skewed it like it is. Thanks!

Nice visual aid, thanks!

Yes, horizontal lines are wide band local interference, they appear randomly and I cannot identify the source. I cannot lower the gain, as they are with higher level and it will only diminish the useful signal without eliminating the interference. Band pass filters would maybe diminish the interference outside the work frequency range, but not in it, right? And moving the antenna is not an option for me

The first thing to do is turn off everything in the house…ask me how I know. Here is a great article on the subject Ham Radio RFI – How To Track Down and Find RFI and Noise Affecting Your Ham Station | K3RRR Kilo Three Triple R Amateur Radio Station

My antenna is omnidirectional and on the roof of the building I am living in. I would have to turn everything off in the whole city district
