MCUBED-2 and BISONSAT TLE swaps

MCUBED-2 case:

Through strf observations by @PE0SAT recently, we’ve noticed and verified that the published TLE set for “MCUBED-2” (39469) doesn’t fit the signal of “MCUBED-2” satellite.

Instead the TLE set of “SMDC ONE 2.4” (39472) is the one that fits the Doppler curves in our observations.

This seems to be the case since the first TLE sets published for these two satellites in space-track.org.

For example, in observation https://network.satnogs.org/observations/9485544/ is the first instance of tracking MCUBED-2 with the first published space-track.org TLE set for MCUBED-2.

In the waterfall you can observe that the signal follows a strange curve instead of being in a straight line (due to doppler correction we perform).

Checking the same observation against “SMDC ONE 2.4” closest (to the observation time) TLE set from space-track, fits this strange curve.

BISONSAT case:

Similar to “MCUBED-2” and “SMDC ONE 2.4”, again through strf observations by @PE0SAT we’ve noticed and verified that the published TLE sets for “BISONSAT” (40968) don’t fit RF signals on our observations.

Instead TLE sets for “SINOD-D 1” (40974), fit signals from “BISONSAT” satellite.

This seems to be the case since the first TLE sets published for these two satellites in space-track.org.

For example, in observation https://network.satnogs.org/observations/9418571 is the first instance of tracking BISONSAT with the first published space-track.org TLE set for BISONSAT.

In the waterfall you can observe that the signal follows a strange curve instead of being in a straight line (due to doppler correction we perform).

Checking the same observation against “SINOD-D 1” closest (to the observation time) TLE set, fits this strange curve.

Our actions:

As SatNOGS community we’ve informed space-track.org and people related to both satellites as soon as we found out the issue (~1 week ago). Unfortunately we don’t have any answer, so for now to avoid confusion and to continue support both satellite teams we are going to change the NORAD IDs for both satellites to follow the right objects.

In other words, MCUBED-2 will follow 39472 and BISONSAT will follow 40974.

I wanted to ask, if we should also inform Daniel to make the swap in gr-satellites, only to notice, that @PE0SAT already did that. Thank you Jan.

We’ve got a response from space-track, they are going to check it. We are going to watch it closely for any updates.
