Lapan-A2 SSTV images

I was alerted by Karn that Lapan-A2 is transmitting SSTV this weekend on 435.880 MHz, P90 mode. I was able to receive this image on a low elevation pass over my QTH in south Thailand.

Too bad that IO-86 only has 6° inclination.
So no chance to receive it in Europe.

Indeed. Also, those semaphore guys are signalling ‘TO’, which I assume is the second image after ‘JO’ to make up the word ‘JOTO’

Lapan-A2 SSTV:

Very happy to receive these 3 images from the Indonesian Lapan-A2 satellite on the JOTA (Jamboree on the Air) event today (10th October).

From my QTH in north Laos, the elevation angle was between about 1 degree - 10 degrees. The SSTV images were meant to be transmitted on the pass 90 minutes earlier, but although I received a good signal, on TM bursts were sent. But a few minutes ago the 3 images were sent continuously between TM bursts. The modes was PD50, (not PD90 as announced on their Facebook page. Prior to image transmission, I received a man announcing in Indonesian language “Repeat of the first image”.

XW0LP, nice SSTV image’s, I’m just starting to enjoy this satellite SSTV thou I have been using SDR Console and MMSSTV for some time now, just wondering reading online that LAPAN-A2" is "IO-86 is this correct ?

Correct. IO-86 is the Oscar number for Lapan-A2. Other aliases is YB0X-1 if you were trying to reach for the APRS digipeater.

Very nice reception! Yes, unlike other satellites which transmitted SSTV prerecorded from the on board radio, IO-86 does not have that feature so SSTV was uplinked by someone from the Earth, in this case was YC6AAB from Aceh hence you can hear his voices.

So you getting that image that clear was incredible as you’re not only dealing with downlink QRM but also the sender uplink QRM.

Thanks for receiving and posting your results :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks! Last year I received the semaphore flag JOTA image. This time, I am at a different QTH, not in Thailand but further north in Laos. Therefore, the elevation angle was quite low but I still managed to get good images. I didn’t realise that this satellite had no pre-record function. I have the complete audio recording, including TM bursts, SSTV images and voices!

Thanks! I missed today because I was teaching :frowning: But 24th Feb I can try to record the signal while teaching  I’m currently in Cambodia and the elevation will only be about 13 degrees… I’ll give it a go!

Got a few images on a the second pass

Funny thing is I wasn’t looking at IO-86 schedule as I was trying to do CW QSO on FO-29 and notice some weird signals on the right. Turns out that was IO-86’s 435.880 SSTV downlink which literally almost on top of FO-29 435.850 center frequency where both roughly has the same position at TCA

Tried to get some SSTV on all the passes, very low elevation could not get any.

Does anyone have the schedule for this week? Thanks

Update - I just found the schedule on FB, and again the whole of West Indonesia is missed off for image uplink and retransmission :frowning: Does only east Indonesia take part in these projects? When is an event planned for west Indonesia? (since I will also then be in the downlink footprint)
