Hello, does anyone has HackRF experience with external clock? And if one knows HackRF Portapack H2 has a built in TCXO on the screen module? I open the case and found something that looks like and labeled as 10 MHz oscillator. The pins that usually used to plugged in TCXO module was used by the screen module.
After reading this dcumentation, I found HackRF do accept external clock with specific case of square wave input and 3.3V peak to peak absolute maximum. I’m curious if I can connect a more stable source such as those CTI 10 MHz OCXO oscillator to the CLKIN port, though I might need to clean/convert the signal with Schmitt trigger circuit and lower the voltage to 3.3V p-p. I know most would point out to use GPSDO module directly, but unfortunately we won’t able to acquire it in the short term and OCXO is more than enough for our use case/learning use.
I’m going to use it for radio astronomy as with the RTL SDR and HackRF internal clock, I calculate the accuracy is with current ppm drift is around 1-5 km/s error bar for Neutral Hydrogen observation, though as a with several test it get at best 1.7 km/s, which I’m already happy with. (I think I should post our observation/system on the radio astronomy category).
Thanks
Adhito
