G5600B and Two G450 Rotators Compatibility

Will a a Yaesu G5600B control two G450 rotators? I recently acquired this combination of components but am completely new to rotator/positioner building. Any hints, tips, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

My goal is to build a tracking system for satellites particularly the ISS.

Thanks in advance!

I don’t know the G5600B, but have a diy G5500 running on the roof.
There are two main motor types:

  • Brushed DC (2 wires)
  • Two winding AC with a run capacitor (3 wires)

Additionally there’s with and without limit switches.
Aand with or without potentiometer.

The G5500 (iirc) is mechanically a Yaesu G-800 and a G-500/550 (or Kenpro KR-500) bolted together, the default for the G800 is brushed DC and for the KR500 is AC with cap down at the controller. There are variants and mods for both.
Both of them has a potentiometer for position.
You need to make sure the controller output matches the motors.
The position pot is 3-lead 500 ohm for both.
G450 has fixed clamps for the pipe, which makes it a bit more difficult to mod for Az/El.

On to the idea you have, is it to tilt one of the rotators and use it for altitude ? If that is the case, it will have no water ingress protection, even in the vertical position is has a somewhat poor IP.
The bearings are also not made for other than axial load, any decent setup has a mast bearing to eliminate other loads. Putting one of them horizontally will need some engineering to solve the IP issue and also the type of forces on the bearings.

In the end, I’d suggest you find a proper elevation mechanism and bolt it to the azimuth.
