Defaut Sample Rate of RTLSDR device

Hello community,
what is the default value for the sample rate that is used for an RTL SDR?
I am using a virtual machine for testing purposes and I found out that the sample rate should not be set too high when I use gqrx because errors start to occur in this case.

What is the sample rate used by the satnogs scripts? And is it possible to change the value?

I see mine is 1e6 (rpi2). Maybe depended on the hardware you using?
