CSS Deployment - CAMSAT XW-4 (CAS-10) - 2022-12-18 01:30 UTC

From Email by Alan, BA1DU

The CAMSAT XW-4 (CAS-10) satellite was launched into the Chinese Space Station on November 12, 2022 aboard China’s Tianzhou-5 cargo spacecraft, and was launched by the Long March-7 Y6 launch vehicle from the Wenchang Launch Center in Hainan, China. It is currently planned that the XW-4 (CAS-10) satellite will be separated from the Chinese space station and enter operational orbit at 01:30 UTC on December 18, 2022.

Preliminary TLE:

We have already an entry for it:

https://db.satnogs.org/satellite/TLZR-1993-2564-0036-4315

with the temporary NORAD ID 99291

It will be available for scheduling a couple of hours before deployment.

This is the current TLE set of CSS we have added in DB. I’ve also scheduled all the observations for the first 4 hours after deployment (01:30 UTC) and several others for the first 18h after deployment.

0 CSS (TIANHE-1)
1 48274U 21035A 22350.93058987 -.00118577 00000-0 -14660-2 0 9997
2 48274 41.4721 186.3547 0003604 131.7420 18.6096 15.59570497 93331

We will continue to follow CSS for this satellite until the deployment time, just in case we have newer TLE set published, after the deployment time we will stop following it.

This is the latest TLE set of CSS that we are going to follow for XW-4:

0 CSS (TIANHE-1)
1 48274U 21035A 22351.74770696 .00050108 00000-0 61226-3 0 9999

We have several receptions of XW-4, the first one was by station “123 - BG8DIV” of @BG8DIV, followed by stations “2823 - BX6AP station 2” of BX6AP N6XL, " 2152 - Tokorozawa VUHF-Discone ’ of Takehiko SONODA, " 2876 - tokyo_v-dipole" of @forestwaterfall and " 2107 - JH4XSY-pi " of @JH4XSY

Satellite is active on both 435.725 MHz and 435.525 MHz, good observations are available at SatNOGS Network - Observations.

There are also reports that Transponder is also alive, like this one:

I’m still experimenting, this is why I produce several updated TLE sets, here is the latest:

XW-4(CAS-10)
1 99291U 22354.60000000 .00000000 00000-0 -20670-5 0 06

With help from @cgbsat I have more variables fitted this time, which probably give better orbital data:

With another curve added @fredy and improved the TLE to this:

Here is the TLE set from space-track.org:

0 TBA - TO BE ASSIGNED
1 54816U 21035C 22354.23186343 .00073022 00000-0 84279-3 0 9998

Still in TBA status but given that is the only deployment from CSS it should be the right object. Anyway we will wait for the object assignment before we move to identification, until then we are going to follow this object for CAS-10.

As the TLE set is now assigned, we have the identification of XW-4(CAS-10) as 54816.

Not very detailed but it shows XW-4(CAS-10), also known as “Macau Student Science Popularization Satellite No. 1”, deployed from CSS:

Can anyone explain why the Doppler frequency correction changes and then returns to normal at high elevation angles?
