Contributing Equipment

Sorry if this is off topic. Is there a network in SATNOGS for repurposing old ground station equipment?

I work in broadcasting, and have various ground station antennas from 2-9 meters I am looking to re-home. Since moving to terrestrial signal transport for incoming programming, SatCom has been relegated to the redundant path and we don’t need this many antennas any more.

Know anybody who may want some giant, 30 year old antennas?

Wow, thanks for this offer.

Me personal, I am always interested in setting up an antenna system, or improving it.
Maybe you can share some details via this post or by sending a PM (personal message)

Hi @idosatcom , we don’t really have a specific place for the topic, here seems fine enough.

Who is interested depends on location. If you are near NW Indiana then I might be interested. I’d use a dish for an ARISS HamTV RX node and general antenna-related teaching. Others might be able to put them to use quicker than me.

Scientific Atlanta Model 8010K - 7.0 Meter Ku-band

Radiation Systems Model 700CS-100 - 7.0 Meter C-Band

Radiation Systems Model 551KS-100 - 5.5 Meter Ku-band

Thanks for the information, I will try to find more details based on the data you shared.

Where are you and the dishes located, I get the impression your not in Europe and that would make this out of reach for me.

West Michigan

I will grab some images this week.

Retrieving the antenna would require at least 1-2 flatbed trucks and probably a cherry-picker. Massive, galvanized steel framework would need to be disassembled. It’s a job that will take a crew.

I have a 3m and a 5m dish up now. My wife wants me to move the 3m to a better location this spring. I’m looking forward to seeing your pictures. Located in North West MI.

We have smaller antennas on site as well, also mostly unused these days.

Sorry, huge newbie to your community.

Looks like you guys primarily focus on UHF and VHF constellations in LEO. What I posted here are ideal for SHF bands and GEO sats. I’m not sure if you guys want to get into Ka or Ku services, but these could get you there.

Thanks for sharing these pictures.

SatNOGS at the moment is observing VHF, UHF and S-band (2.3 GHz).

At the same time, and that is also the reason why I shared this post with other radio enthusiasts more and more are observing also X-band (8.4 GHz) and for S and X-band these would be a great asset.

I hope they will all get a new place to observe transmissions for a long time to come.
