The AST filing shows their proposed emergency TT&C 430-440 MHz links from the satellites will use omnidirectional (0.0 dB gain) antennas at a transmit power of 7dBW (5W). Even with a fairly wide bandwidth, that’s plenty of energy to at least show up as more noise in the transponders of any linear satellites in view (a MUCH larger area than just the footprints of the proposed ground stations) with uplinks overlapping any AST satellite when it is in this mode. I’ve filed comments in opposition and hope other US hams and organizations have done so opposing AST’s use of 430-440 MHz.
