I am married, and I have two daughters - my first steps into satellite communications, development and operations started with the WREN space program, the first 1p Pocketqube satellite to make it into space, for which I became its project manager in 2012. I was later appointed flight director for the Compass-2 mission. After this mission, I got a part-time position as an external lecturer at FH-Aachen.
Since 2014, I have been working part-time at FH Aachen in the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, where I manage the FH Aachen Space Operations Facility (FHASOF). The FHASOF is a multi-mission amateur radio ground segment performing shadow tracking and TT&C operations on amateur radio satellites and university CubeSats. We perform telemetry, tracking, and commanding for our own, as well as other amateur radio satellites on a best-effort basis for a purely educational purpose in the VHF, UHF, L, and S bands. At FHASOF, students operate satellites for students, and radio amateurs fly satellites for other radio amateur operators and entities. Because we receive minimal funding, we rely entirely on the use of freeware and open-source software and the “do-it-yourself” experience. So I am thrilled to be a part of this great community.
Since 2022, I have been working full-time in the DLR Responsive Space Cluster Competence Center as a senior ground station engineer at Trauen BSM. Currently, I am one of the flight directors in preparation for the routine operations of the CubeISL mission. CubeISL is two CubeSats flying in formation, carrying a laser terminal for Down-To-Earth (DTE) and Inter-Satellite-Link communication (ISL), scheduled for launch in 2025. With my team of student flight operator team, I will conduct regular (non-contingent) S-band TT&C routine operations on behalf of RB/GSOC from the FHASOF ground segment, for which I remain the headman.
