UMKA-1 telescope satellite mission

actually under windstorm over 100km/h antennas are in security, I hope to receive the beautiful picture below tomorrow or on saturday…

The other HNY card was received previoulsy via UMKA-1 :globe_showing_europe_africa: :satellite: , and all others chidren’s drawing :star_struck:

Hey Alexey,

Is the SSTV shut off? also i got a poor transmission on the 8th and nothing from other passes that I’ll post.

January 8th.

if you record this obs. try decode with robot72 , not robot36

Hello. Sorry for the delay.
SSTV is down. The next activation is expected in February.
At the end of January, digital transmission of photographs from a telescope or survey camera will be possible. Currently, this is intended for local transmissions, but if interested, the geographic coverage can be expanded without any problem. However, receiving photographs is a bit more complicated than receiving images from SSTV.

Digital SSTV? Very interesting! Do you have a tutorial or procedure for receiving it?
Another question: in UMKA-1’s orbits, I noticed that when it passes to my east (cubical quad antenna with rotor), the signal is very strong and I can receive it well at both low and high elevations (I even received 3 or 4 images during the passage). While when the satellite passes to my west, the signal is weaker. I don’t think it’s a defect, but it probably depends on the antenna’s position on the cubesat, which may be more efficient in certain directions. Is this a valid theory? Or is it absurd?

This image was transmitted locally as part of a school event.
The image shows the school’s Space-Pi CubeSats: UMKA-1 (left) and 239Alferov (right).
Different platforms, different perspectives, different people - one purpose.

Hi! This isn’t SSTV )))
The USP 9k6 GMSK is used to obtain photographs.
I think they’ve already been posted here.
But I’ll still leave links to software descriptions and alternative methods later.

Generally, yes. Especially if the open-horizon conditions are right. But it’s worth considering that the UMKA performs pointing and imaging while actively transmitting children’s drawings, sometimes according to a pre-programmed sequence. This could also be the cause of a weak signal.
But if the weak signal is a constant issue at a specific satellite location, then your theory is correct.
This can also be verified using other satellites that travel the same path.

No worries about the delay. I figured the SSTV was down. Looking forward to working your Bird! I’ll work on trying to learn how to download some of the telescope stuff, sounds neat! Let us know the best way to download those photos. By the way, It was 2018 that I stayed in Podolsk for a few months in the summer. I can’t remember the station I used to get of off but I liked that area a lot! I lived in your country for 13 months!

Hi! I think I took a picture like this on December 19, 2025:

An excellent result!

Obtaining a complete image in a single satellite pass is quite difficult. Ground station interference and urban infrastructure can interfere.
However, we try to transmit a single image several times per satellite pass. This allows us to replenish missed packets. Using observations from stations in a distributed monitoring network also helps.

The photograph was taken during a communication session with UMKA-1 on December 19 and was immediately transmitted.
We also couldn’t get a full photo right away and used additional observation.
