The best reference at the moment would be LEO Azimuth Tracking from WB4APR. According to that, a fixed 30 degrees is estimated to work well.
I’m not aware of additional calculations or, even better, measurements, to support the claim. Doing the link budgets for a bunch of known sats and simulating the system is on the TODO list. Knowing which satellites actually need a better receive system with an elevation rotator and narrower antenna would be really useful for the project.
